The August issue of Rumbles & Roars will be the last one produced and edited by Phil and Deborah Forester. Their commitment to the club and its flagship magazine over the last quarter of a century cannot be overstated, tirelessly producing the monthly update year after year. During the pandemic when in-person meets were temporarily banned and the magazine was the only thing keeping members in touch with the club, Phil and Deb never missed a beat. The quality of the magazine and the love and care with which it was put together were testament to the dedication the duo have for the club and its members.
Club Chairman Hugh Lewis said, “On behalf of the whole club, I would just like to thank Phil and Debs for all of the hard work that they have put in over the years, producing what is one of the best car club magazines in the country. They oversaw the switch to full colour printing and kept Rumble & Roars going through the long Covid lockdowns when, for most members, the magazine was the only contact they had with the club. Thanks so much to both of you.”
But of course the show must go on. As Phil and Deb take a well earned holiday in August, I will take over editorship for the September issue. I have spent the last few months preparing a new layout and design for the magazine which retains all the regular favourites such as Hugh’s Views and Barton Report, classified ads and service directory, whilst introducing new regulars including an editorial, “Crosswalk” competition puzzle (the prize being a Rumbles & Roars pen – don’t get too excited), Moments in US Motoring History, and exclusive feature articles – the first of which looks at the history of Pierce-Arrow. And as well as club news and looking back with historic features, we’ll have a small section dedicated to current events in the US automotive world.
The August edition of Rumbles & Roars will be available at the Barton meet on Sunday 7th of August. Members not attending Barton will receive their copy by post during the following week.
