I have been interested in American and custom cars since the mid 70s, but with business and family commitments taking up all of our time, we didn’t get around to owning one until 2009 when I saw an advert for a 1953 Chevy pickup. Having bought it, we were hooked!
We attended a few car shows with the truck and joined the AACNW that year. Gradually, we got more involved, helping out at the indoor shows at Event City and attending the final Americana International Show.
At the club AGM in 2015, a plea went out for new committee members and I put my name forward and was appointed as club Treasurer, taking over from Mike Holding. During the summer of 2017, following the resignation of the previous chairman, I agreed to take over that position, with Shelley taking on my previous role as Treasurer. And, nearly five years later, here we both are!
In 2013 we bought another car - this time a 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix - followed in 2018 by our latest purchase, a 1961 Chevy Parkwood station wagon. Needless to say, we have still got the truck too! We get to lots of shows during the season, as well as to every meet at Barton during the rest of the year.
Owning and running these classic vehicles is a real treat, but the social side of the AACNW adds much more. We have made so many new friends and have had lots of great times and are looking forward to more of both.
